What is Basic Verification?
Basic Verification is the first KYC (Know Your Customer) level, which involves validating your Bank Verification Number (BVN). This verification confirms your identity and links your account to your official bank record.
Once completed, your status will be displayed as “Basic Verification” with a checkmark on your Settings page.
Why is it Needed?
Basic Verification (KYC Level 1) is required to generate a Virtual Bank Account (VBA) account. Without completing this KYC level, you cannot create a VBA to top up your Naira wallet.
This verification helps:
Ensure that your account is linked to a valid identity
Prevent fraudulent account creation
Comply with regulatory requirements
What Information is Required for Basic Verification?
To complete Basic Verification, you only need to provide your BVN.
The verification is processed automatically. Once your BVN is validated, your status will update to Verified.
When is Basic Verification Required?
Before you can generate a Virtual Bank Account, Basic Verification must be completed. If you attempt to create a VBA without validating your BVN:
The request will not proceed
You will be prompted to complete Basic Verification first
Completing Basic Verification early ensures that your VBA can be created and used without any hitches.
